Day 23, 24 Niagra Falls, ON, Canada

From Chicago, we drove straight to Canada to visit Alex's aunt and uncle and cousins who live just about 7 minutes from Niagra Falls. The drive from Chicago, through Michigan and then through Ontario all the way to St. Catherine's was probably the second worst day of the trip (the worst one is coming up)! For starters, we don't have air conditioning in the RV and it was a really hot day so we were both literally dripping with sweat by the time we go to his cousins'. Secondly, I'm pretty sure we got food poisoning or somehting from all the sushi we ate in Chicago because I was throwing up literally the entire way to Canada (10 times!). Not to mention that it was the longest we've ever driven in one day: 8 hours in the RV! And fianlly, we got stopped at the border because Alex has a weapon in the RV for protection. It was pretty funny actually... Canadian police are kind of a joke so I think they had to act extra macho to try to scare us. But it was legit! We had to put our hands on the dash and everything! In the end, they just held the gun at the border which meant that we had to backtrack A LOT when we left Canada.

Anyhow! By the time we got to Alex's cousins' we were so exhauseted and they welcomed us with open arms, a very air conditioned house, the most confortable bed I've ever slept in, hot borscht on the stove, and lots of chocolate and tea. It was the best thing in the world and we ended up staying there for over a week, feeling like we were staying at a high class hotel. So once we got situated and caught up with the family, we headed to Niagra Falls.

The Falls were beautiful, but smaller than what I was expecting (which apparently is what everyone says about them).

But we had fun walking around the touristy area with rides, restaurants and cafes with Alex's cousins. And of course the first place they took us to was Tim Horton's (which we found out is referred to as Timmy's by locals) for doughnuts and iced capps (which I laughed at because an iced cappucino is imspossible to make; clearly Canadians don't know what a cappucino is!).

We also stayed to see it at night when it's all lit up with colorful lights!

And Alex's cousin Philip took us on some little hike down this gorge near the falls where he and Alex tried to lose Katya and I in the woods. Didn't work... But we loved running thorugh the trees!
