Day 2 Coeur D'Alene, ID

Everything was finally packed and ready to go, but before we left Spokane we had to make one last stop: my favorite cafe/ bakery in the US; Rockwood Bakery. Unlike most cafes that try to go for the modern, urban Starbucks feel, Rockwood is a converted old house located in a quiet, neighborhood. Elaborate baroque paintings grace the walls and rich, red hues and plush, velvet cushions give more of a Victorian tea house feeling than a cafe in a big city. Their plethora of homemade pastries, from veggie quiches to zucchini bread, also adds to the overall appeal of the cafe.

Enough about food, after filling up on a delicious breakfast, we finally hit the open road in our RV and headed to Idaho. Now, having never been to Idaho, I'd always pictured it as nothing but potato farms and potato farmers. I was wrong. Lake Coeur D'Alene is one of the most beautiful lakes I've seen and I was really disappointed my practical husband wouldn't stop for a swim, since we had to get to Montana before dark.

We did however spontaneously stop to look at a tee pee we saw from the freeway. It was disappointing and not even worth posting a picture about though.

We crossed the Montana border in the evening and immediately I could sense the difference. Montana definitely feels like the boonies! For starters, deer pranced all around us as we drove. Men were wearing cowboy hats everywhere and our personal favorite: the roadkill on the side of the road was a bear!
