Day 7 Banff, AB, Canada

After spending a day at Lake Louise, we then headed over to the actual city of Banff. It was a cute little town that's main purpose is for a ski resort area during the winter. This was apparent by all the winter apparel stores like Helly Hanson and North Face lining the sidewalks, as well as the snowflakes on the sides of the buildings that hadn't been taken down since winter. It was fun to see, but we didn't stay too long since the streets were completely packed with tourists buying chachki stuffed bears and Canadian flag towels.

Right across from our campsite was a beautiful view of the mountains though and when we saw that there was a river in the valley we decided to try to find it!
We started out on a trail and before we knew it we were sliding down a slippery slope of gravel. We were determined though to go swimming in the river and didn't let the menacing hill stop us.
We did get to the bottom and found the river just fine. Unfortunately hundreds of mosquitoes found us too. As soon as we were converged upon by all the bugs we quickly ditched our swimming plan and just started running through the woods thinking it would keep them off of us. We ended up finding a really sweet deer path through the woods and had an exciting time running over fallen logs and though carved out bushes. Eventually we hit a dead end and turned around. The gravel hill was a killer on the way back and once we got back to our RV we discovered two things. One, that we were both super dehydrated and decided to drink a lot more water from then on out. Two, that the mosquitoes had won that round and that I had over 50 bites on me. Alex didn't get as many... I think it's all the garlic he eats.

Now not living exactly in the city, we've never considered ourselves city slickers. However, after spending four days in literally just the woods, with the largest town near us being a mountain village, and no cell phone service or wifi, we were kind of starting to go crazy. So that evening we went into town, discovered a cute, little mall with an amazing cafe that had superb espresso con pannas and free wifi, and we literally freaked! It was a much needed break back into civilization and we spent the whole evening there. We then checked out the Canadian fast food restaurant of choice (Tim Horton's) and found out that they have really good paninis and wraps. While munching on those we went to see a movie after we realized they had a tiny theater playing the new Batman movie which we still hadn't seen. Are we pathetic for going crazy over a mall and wifi when we're surrounded by such beautiful creation? Perhaps... But all in all, it was a really good day!

Conversation of the day:
Movie Theater Attendant: That'll be 20$ for two tickets.
Anja: Hey that's not bad!
Alex: Shh, yes it is! Do you give a discount to foreigners?
Movie Theater Attendant: No sorry.
Alex: Do you give a discount for honeymooners?
Movie Theater Attendant: No, haha.
Alex: Do you give a discount for military?
Movie Theater Attendant: No.
Anja: Sorry he's not military. Don't listen to him.
Alex: This is why people love me, eh?
